Six goals not enough for St George Easton-in-Gordano

Wednesday, October 07, 2009, 07:00

St George Easton-in- Gordano were put through the emotional wringer as they scored six times at Yatton Athletic and still finished on the losing side.

Despite going 2-0 up inside the first five minutes through strikes from Jimmy Davis and Ellis Whiting, they crashed to an 8-6 defeat in a helter-skelter Division I clash.

Yatton's goals came from Tom Channing (2), Jasper Hart, Dom Sausen (2), Pat Sausen, Liam Johns and Dan Walter, while Whiting fired a hat-trick and captain James Moseley, Ellis Whiting and Kyle O'Donovan hit back with goals for Saints.

It took a series of outstanding saves from Yatton keeper Chris Bryant to ensure his side stayed in front, while his opposite number Chris Bryant also performed well.

Shirehampton produced a superb second-half performance to win 3-1 at Cheddar Albion with goals from Mike Wrench, Jadies Robertson and Roy Townsend.

Cheddar had equalised to make it 1-1 when Harry Brunsden turned home a Joe Harris free-kick.

Shire keeper Richard Root then produced a superb point-blank save from Ryan Bishop before saving a Harris penalty to deny Cheddar a half-time lead.

Cheddar's Will Manners and Shire's Sam Scott both had impressive games in midfield.

Tom Murray's brace earned Stoke Lane a 2-0 victory in a fine game against Priory Juniors, while Mitch Purnell (3), Sam Downes (2), Daniel Caswell, Joe Sheppard and Jack Luton were on target in Imperial Saints' 8-3 romp against Made For Ever.

In Division A, Hanham Athletic had an Ed Parnell hat-trick to thank for clinching a 4-1 win over AXA. Luke Rossitter grabbed their other goal, with Jordan Jones netting AXA's consolation.

Josh Channelle's strike for Olveston United and an unfortunate Elliott Mills own goal ensured their match with Bishopston United ended in a 1-1 draw, while Whitchurch Sports went goal- crazy, thrashing Mangotsfield 12-0.

Bobby Archard led the way with four goals and was joined on the scoresheet by George Laver (2), Conor Walker (2), Alex Vezey (2), Grant Caddick and Lee Bartley.

In the GFA Under-18 Shield, Yate United came from behind to beat Hawkesbury 2-1 with goals by Tom Breaks and Ethan Bulmer, while Yate Rangers crashed to a 9-0 defeat against Stonehouse, Nat Buckland leading the way with four of the goals.
