Memorial concert for deputy headteacher
Les Skidmore, a former deputy headteacher at Kings of Wessex School in Cheddar, died in November 2007 from a brain tumour.
The 66-year-old had devoted his life to teaching and performing with most of his spare time spent either singing or acting.
He was also president of the Cheddar Male Choir.
The choir has decided to stage a Concert For Les at the Playhouse Theatre in Weston-super-Mare on June 14. Its aim is to celebrate his life and to raise money for Weston Hospicecare which provided support for Les during his illness.
Les, who lived in Cheddar with his wife Jackie and their two children, was a well- respected maths teacher at Kings of Wessex. He later went on to teach children with learning difficulties at Mark College.
Jackie, aged 65, said the concert would be a fitting memorial to her husband. She said: "As a family we are touched that so many people wanted to take part in this concert and I hope it can raise as much money as possible for Weston Hospicecare."
Tickets for the event go on sale on May 1 and organisers hope to raise as much as they can for Weston Hospicecare, which provides free palliative care to people with life-threatening illnesses.
John Haynes, aged 71, from Congresbury, of Cheddar Male Choir said: "It was very easy to get all the groups together because they all wanted to come and perform in memory of Les and he has sung with them all at one time or another.
"Les was a wonderful man, very charismatic and talented. As well as singing and acting he played the trombone."
Tickets cost £10 and are available from the Playhouse Theatre box office or by calling the theatre on 01934 656544. To find out more about Weston Hospicecare call the hospice's fundraising team on 01934 423960, or visit www.westonhospicecare.org.uk
