Biker dies after M5 motorway crash

A biker has died in hospital after his trike crashed with a car on the M5 motorway.

Police said the car, a Vauxhall Astra driven by a 20-year-old woman from Plymouth, spun out of control after apparently getting a puncture.

It collided with a Honda trike, driven by a 49-year-old man from Winscombe, near Banwell and Cheddar, in Somerset.

The crash happened southbound between junction 23 and 24 at around 11.15am yesterday.

The car veered across the lanes of the motorway, hit the central reservation and then collided with the trike.

The rider was taken to Musgrove Park Hospital, Taunton, but died later. His passenger, his 15-year-old son, is in hospital with leg injuries. The car driver wasn't hurt.

The accident caused long delays on the motorway in both directions.

Police say the M5 was busy at the time and they're appealing for witnesses.
