If you haven't yet sampled the delights of Oppo Comedy, you'd better be quick – this Sunday's instalment of the weekly comedy session is the last one before a long summer break.

As well as stand-up slots from a mixture of rising stars and nervous new talent, the evening features sketches, silliness and much more – compered by two of Bristol's most engaging comics, Fin Taylor and Jared Hardy.

This session features Edinburgh Festival preview sets from one fine local name (Mat Ewins) and one rising star from across the border in Wales – the articulate, engagingly bemused Elis James, pictured. As ever, it's a paltry £2 to get in. Sample it now, or regret it the whole summer long…

Oppo Comedy Sunday, June 10, Channings Hotel, Clifton, Bristol. See listings for details.

Edinburgh Comedy Previews

Wardrobe Theatre, above the White Bear Pub, St Michael's Hill, Bristol, 8pm, £3. www.thewardrobe theatre.com

The Wardrobe's Edinburgh Festival previews week continues. Tonight's line-up includes Roisin Conaty, a likeably confessional comic and winner of Chortle's 2010 Best Newcomer award.

Jongleurs Comedy Club

Weekly comedy sessions, tonight and tomorrow, featuring four comics a night and an after-show party. This weekend's guests include Tom Wrigglesworth, a quick-witted and highly original comedian who made his name with his R4 'Open Letters' series, tracking down corporate lunacy and maddening jobsworths in modern Britain.

A week of Edinburgh previews draws to a close with a set from Seann Walsh, a highly physical stand-up with the warped world view of a Dylan Moran or Rhod Gilbert. A second batch of previews will touch down at the Wardrobe from 9-13 July: check future issues for more details.

Cresswell Centre, College Square, Anchor Rd, Bristol, 8.30pm (doors 6.30pm), £12/£20 meal deal. 0117 914 0910 / www.riproarcomedy.co.uk

Visiting Riproar this weekend are comics Andrew Bird, Johnny Candon and Erich McElroy. The latter, a Seattle-hailing UK resident, is well worth catching: modest and slightly bookish, he also shows a genuine, unforced affection for British life.
