Our cash is wasted
H AVING read through my Evening Post,
it's so easy to see that employees of these councils still think they have a never-ending pot of money to spend as they like, and do not want any interference from the public.
They just don't seem to get into their heads that without the public paying their council taxes these public sector employees would not only have no money for all these projects but would probably be unemployed.
They really don't recognise the fact that the council does not actually have any money of its own.
I see at Filton Town Council some clever individual decided to sign a contract with a recycling company before any proper consultation with the public was done (as usual) and then they are surprised at the anger from the public because they do not want their land used for this purpose .
What interfering people these public are – just because they have paid not only his salary but everything else, why should they have a say?
If the £50,000 to cancel the contract had to come from his own pocket I'm sure next time he would be a bit more investigative.
On the next pages, an enormous sum of £2.5 million was mentioned for Bristol City Council to cover taxi fares. This beggars belief and then there is the cost of the World Cup game screenings at £90,000 – just where do the council officials think all this money is coming from?
It's bad enough as a pensioner thinking of my council tax being used to pay the over-inflated salaries and pensions of 15,000 employees, let alone paying for them to swan around in taxi cabs.
Finally, the £1.4 million allocated for "artwork" for the new Southmead Hospital. Quite honestly this misuse of public money really is utterly appalling.
My late husband was treated at that hospital for Motor Neurone disease and I for one would prefer to see this sum of money put to use to try to find a cure for this and other terrible diseases, not artwork.
The worst part about all these projects that are put into action by public sector workers is that if they go wrong or cost many thousands in cancellation fees, etc, no one is ever to blame, no one loses their jobs or their pensions and heaven forbid they are made to pay for their mistakes and reimburse the poor old taxpayers.
And yet when you come to think about it, no one in the council ever actually produces anything at all – except paperwork, excuses and hot air.

“Gross misappropriation of funds...spending thousands already on Chris Gorwyn architect messing around with our field...£8,000 to Clarke Bond project management to look at if it was a good idea! total waste of our money...the fact that Churngold have spent so much of their own money is neither here nor there...as the economy has worsened they say they can only pay £3 per cubic metre instead of the original £7.50. So the council should say that due to econmic problems we cant pay them a penny...see you in court Churngold!!”

“For Filton Town council their elections are in May 2011 when you have your chance to vote out those councillors who continue to ignore residents. Roger Hutchinson has already been voted out of the chair of Filton safer communnity group because people are fed up with his arrogant approach to local issues and squandering our money! Roll on the elections..”

“Well said that man. Negligence on the part of Filton town council! Its our money they are squandering and they should face a public enquiry as a result and be "struck off" if enough residents vote. That should be the way of new politics, if you dont like it then sack them!”
