Gilly's cafe, Nailsea offers new weekly specials menu

Popped into Gilly's cafe at lunchtime and it was really a delight with its new decor. Got fed-up with boil-in-the-microwave curries and/or raw fat chips we have experienced in other local fast food joints of late. My husband and I chose from the 'special' menu of homemade meatballs with Italian-style spaghetti, pork and apple casserole, tuna and sweetcorn pasta bake, walnut with pear and stilton quiche, steak and onion ciabatta roll with side salad and chips. I had quiche with salad, he had spaghetti. I don't know what the other diners thought but we actually were making appreciative 'umm' noises as we ate! We licked the platter clean. The specials are offered on a weekly basis with a new menu every Monday. Gilly told us she has a new supplier for her bakery fresh bread and since the Portishead patisserie closed was having a go at making her own Danish pastries. The sample of a flaky pastry apple strudel we tried was delicious. Gilly is definitely one of the best cooks in Nailsea. For a small surcharge credit cards are now accepted at the High Street cafe. Our bill with coffee came to£14.94 as I qualified for a discount as a Nailsea worker! Only thing I don't like about the cafe are all the handwritten notices telling me what or what not to do. Still not sure if I find my own table, if I'm allowed to sit at a table for four if there are only two of us, when or where I pay and I find the finger pointing to the loos a bit 'up yours', sorry.

    Honest, tasty cafe food

“Gillys Cafe on Nailsea High Street cooks up honest, tasty cafe food made from great quality, fresh ingredients. Among the treats on their menu are home-made cakes, crisp salads and steaming hot jacket potatoes. They dont skimp on the drinks either, with really good coffee and tea available as well as ice-cold soft drinks.”
