Prayer Patrol Reverend targets knife crime and drink-driving at Christmas
In the three-pronged campaign she is calling for people not to drink and drive, to leave weapons at home and to contact those who might be lonely or vulnerable.
Despite having had a knee replacement operation recently, Rev Palmer and members of her Peacemakers group were out in Broadmead and Cabot Circus at the weekend spreading the message that a happy Christmas is a safe Christmas.
She said: "We had a really good response from members of the public. People were telling us what they liked about the campaign.
"Each year there is an increase in crimes committed around this time, excessive drinking and driving while under the influence of alcholol.
"Many more people, especially young people, are going out and arming themselves as a means of protection and sadly a few to make trouble, but there are also the forgotten ones who harm themselves and others due to their vunerability and loneliness.
"Our appeal is visual and aims to reach across communities, generational and social streams. It is an opportunity for everybody to become an agent for change and safer communities at this festive season.
"They can do so by taking and passing on the flier in situations or areas they think should be targeted or just as an encouragement to contact a person who they know who may be vulnerable and at risk.
"Sometimes all people need is a visual reminder, awareness and encouragement, so hopefully our fliers will speak for themselves and we can all enjoy a peaceful and safer festive season."
For the past five years Prayer Patrols, led by Rev Palmer, have been carried out in Bristol, on the street as well as in community centres, schools, pubs and fast food outlets.
The aim is to convince people to turn their backs on crime and violence.
The concept has been so successful that it has spread to Ledbury and Nottingham, where the Christmas safety appeal has also been launched.
Fliers have also gone up in shops and community centres in London where 20 teenagers were killed in violent incidents in seven months this year.
