Cabot Circus to get mini golf courses

Tuesday, June 02, 2009, 07:00

The "best mini golf course in the world" will open in Bristol's Cabot Circus next month.

Two 18-hole courses covering more than 16,000 square feet of space behind shop units on the top floor of the new shopping centre will open on July 11.

Jungle Rumble Adventure Golf will run the AstroTurf multi-themed golf course, which has been built by specialist contractors from America.

Director Angus Wright told the Evening Post yesterday: "We have built crazy golf courses in this country for years, but they have become quite passe over the last 40 years.

"But now the best mini golf course in the world has been built in Bristol. It's like an Indiana Jones film set. Instead of concrete we have used Astroturf, and there are 36 holes, with the whole course the size of a football pitch.

"People won't realise the space available behind the shops in Cabot Circus. We will have a small entrance but a course capable of taking 200 people an hour."

The multi-themed space will include a live volcano, a jungle, a temple and a swamp with waterfalls, as well as two balconies overlooking the courses with a bar and cafe, serving alcohol and food.

The golf course, which will take visitors more then two hours to complete, will be open daily from 9.30am to 11pm.

Mr Wright said: "We jumped at the opportunity to come to Bristol, which is the best place for young people in the country. We will open on July 11 in time for the school holidays and have a big launch party planned.

"Everybody likes a game of crazy golf. We will cater for everyone from two to 100 years old. It's a place where people can go on dates and groups of friends can meet in a safe environment. That's why we're so happy to be in Cabot Circus. People could go for a meal then come and play golf, or head to the cinema after a game."

Jungle Rumble Adventure Golf also plan to hold children's birthday parties and office parties, and the two balconies overlooking the course will be available to hire.

It is located next to The Entertainer opposite the independent retailers on the glass walk floor.

Family tickets will cost £20, and single tickets from £5 to £7, with discounted student rates.

Cabot Circus centre manager James Bailey said: "The new golf course will add to the retail and leisure facilities we already have at Cabot Circus. It's an exciting time for us as we are also now 92 per cent let.

"It adds to Bristol's appeal as a day-out venue, not just a shopping destination."
