This is Bristol

F URTHER to the article you kindly printed on Tuesday, July 28. May I be allowed to question the erroneous point made by the council that the Wellington Hill playing field is only occasionally used by a few dog walkers?

I would dispute this. As I pointed out, the Boys' Club used this space for regular organised football matches, as well as many local residents. One could argue that since this city's policy of decentralisation of resources – i.e., provision of out of town shopping centres etc – the older outskirts such as Henleaze, Horfield and Ashley Down have now become the 'inner city' residential area.

Therefore provision of any such valuable open space in this densely populated region is now even more relevant to allow the city to 'breathe'.

In recent decades we have seen many playing fields redesignated for housing while vast areas of brownfield sites remain untouched throughout the region.

Should such rape of our green spaces proceed? Has the council agreed a rates reduction for the residents for loss of amenities?
