At the heart of a deprived area close to the centre of Bristol, the Roman Catholic church has undergone a significant transformation in its mission to reach out 'to the poor and socially disadvantaged'.

This is a culturally vibrant and diverse community which has played an active role in this regeneration.

Visiting architect George Tasker, of Architecton, said: "Dividing the nave and turning it around to face east creates a more welcoming area while converting the presbytery has freed up a large amount of space for community groups. All this has been achieved on a very tight budget.

"With great insight parish priest Richard Mckay said; 'the church is more than just a building, it is about the people', and this project rejuvenates the church so it can embrace its mission to the community with greater vigour."
