Weymouth hit by heartbreaking late goal

Mansfield Town 2 Weymouth 1: Weymouth suffered late heartbreak in North Nottinghamshire, as lowly Mansfield scored a late winner to make it five games without a victory for the Terras.

The game had started so brightly for Weymouth, with Stuart Bevon putting the visitors' 1-0 ahead on 19 minutes. Indecisive defending in the Mansfield rearguard allowed Pierre Joseph-Dubois to steal in between Alan O'Hare and goalkeeper Paddy Gamble but O'Hare hauled down Dubois to leave referee Tony Harrington no alternative but to award the penalty.

Stuart Beavon stepped up to calmly slot home the penalty past on-loan Nottingham Forest keeper Gamble and give the Terras the lead.

The visitors were quite happy to play on the counter-attack for the majority of the first half, restricting Mansfield to few chances, while looking dangerous themselves when they broke.

Phase one of Alan Lewer's pre-match team talk seemed to be working, frustrate the opposition and in turn frustrate the home fans, and as the referee blew the half-time whistle, the frustration around the ground was obvious.

But the second half was one of disappointment and frustration for Weymouth, as Mansfield took control and equalised through Adnan Ahmed's glancing near post header on 58 minutes.

The game was end to end by this point and Ryan Williams went close for the visitors, troubling Gamble with a low effort.

But as the game was seemingly heading towards a share of the spoils, Gavin Hurren's long throw was flicked on by Jason Lee at Danny Knowles' near post, and Jonathan D'Laryea side-footed home in the 90th minute to ensure an unpleasant journey home for the Terras.
