Bristol residents give thumbs up to new cricket ground

Tuesday, July 28, 2009, 07:00

Bishopston residents have largely backed plans to expand the County Ground.

People living close to the venue told the Evening Post that matches and events at the cricket club caused them little disruption and have welcomed the inclusion of a new swimming pool.

Many said they would be pleased to see more top-class cricket being played on their doorsteps.

However, in the past residents have complained of traffic congestion and parking difficulties when big matches are played at the ground in Nevil Road.

Retired insurance worker Michael White, 68, who lives in Lancashire Road, said: "I'm quite happy living next door to the ground and I use the gym there.

"I've been here 20 years and we get an international every year but at the moment, with the way the temporary seating is done, it's a bit cramped for spectators and it's awkward to get out of your seat and go for a drink. Hopefully that will be sorted out in the new ground. I'll be attending the exhibition to find out more about what the club has in mind."
