South West Children's Hospice unveils magical garden
The Sunken Retreat at Charlton Farm was created by award-winning designer Mark Walker.
The Weston-super-Mare expert took inspiration from the Lord of the Rings to create the new garden at the hospice for children with life-limiting conditions.
It includes a Hobbit-style house built into the hillside with a prism at the top for light to reflect through.
Mr Walker, 40, won a silver medal from the Royal Horticultural Society for the garden but it has taken a couple of years for the necessary money to be raised for it to take shape in the grounds of Charlton Farm.
It was made possible due to fundraising from friends groups and the local community, along with corporate sponsors, including HSBC and Arcadia Housing.
Head of fundraising at Charlton Farm, Karen Wallis, said: "It is a quiet haven away from the hubbub for all the families and is absolutely magical.
"It also gives the experience of being outside while inside.
"We have had some wonderful support from the community over the last year."
