Portishead's Willis aiming to keep up the run

Friday, November 21, 2008, 10:25

Les Phillips Cup: Dave Willis says his Portishead Town fliers have the capacity to upset Willand Rovers tomorrow and cause more stirs in the Les Phillips Cup.

While promotion from the first division is top of their agenda, Willis' team reached the quarter-finals of the Somerset FA Premier Cup with a 2-0 extra-time victory over Keynsham Town in Portishead are also unbeaten in their last 12 league outings heading into tomorrow's first round tie at home against the Premier Division side.

Willis acknowledged: "It's a great opportunity to test ourselves against a team we have aspirations to mix it with next season.

"This is the first time we've got past the preliminary round stage and we're looking to go as far as we can in the competition."

The Portishead boss is without left-back Nick Sloane (county duty), whom he hopes to sign from Mangotsfield United for the remainder of the season.

Dan Fletcher gets a rare opportunity to shine between the Cadbury Heath sticks in place of the injured Simon Crawford as the first division leaders pit their wits at home against sixth-placed top- flight outfit Melksham Town.

Oldland Abbotonians hope to include striker Tom Coole in their ranks after injury as they entertain Division One rivals Shrewton United.
