Nathan's keen to remain at Bristol

Thursday, March 19, 2009, 07:00

Nathan Brew could stay at the Memorial Stadium beyond this summer.

The versatile former Wales international was signed by Bristol in December on a short-term contract after he was released by Llanelli Scarlets, with his wages being part-funded by the BRIS Trust supporters group.

With Luke Eves released to play for England Under-20s against Scotland tomorrow, Brew should claim his third straight start when Bristol visit Wasps on Sunday in the Guinness Premiership.

"I'd like to stay for next season but there are a few issues that need to be dealt with first," said Brew. "We will have to see if Bristol stay up or go down and I have had interest from elsewhere. It's all up in the air at the minute.

"I am here for the rest of the season. I am enjoying myself fully. We will have to see how things progress."

Bristol have not won in the league since they beat Northampton 14-13 at the Memorial Stadium in November.

They have seen possible wins snatched away in their last two home ties; both times leading against Harlequins and Leicester before losing 17-14 and 23-17 respectively.

But Brew believes a win is not far away – and that could come at Adams Park this weekend.

"A win is just around the corner," said the 26-year-old. "We were disappointed we lost against Leicester. We should have won that game.

"Hopefully we can take that forward to the game on Sunday and get a win against Wasps. After playing in the Premiership for a few games now, I know most teams in this league are beatable. Our confidence has grown and we are trying to play rugby."

Meanwhile, Bristol welcome back hooker Scott Linklater after a three-match absence. Centres Greg Barden and Junior Fatialofa and former captain Matt Salter are also in to the squad to face Wasps.
