Lydney set to tighten up defence at Canterbury

Saturday, September 27, 2008, 08:00

LYDNEY have had a hard look at the video of last weekend's 42-0 defeat by Rosslyn Park, in which all six tries were scored before half-time.

"We again failed to defend satisfactorily," said director of rugby Colin Henderson. "We've analysised the match video and have worked on a different approach for this weekend's game at Canterbury.

"The game was won in the first half and, to give credit to our lads. they stuck at it (in the second half). I'd say it was rather a case of us fronting up to the situation rather than Rosslyn Park taking their foot off the gas."

The Severnsiders make three changes in the pack for today's match. George Porter comes in at loosehead prop and Bennett Smith at tighthead, with Dave Emery at blindside flanker.

Lydney (away v Canterbury, 3pm): T Wilkes; D Bendall, C Holder, L Johnson, C Vine; M Davies, L Thomas; G Porter, B Lewis, B Smith, J Bashford, P Kiely (capt), D Emery, D Jenkins, W Jones. Reps: S Price, S Coombes, M Baker, J Williams, M Rinaldi.

BRIDGWATER & Albion will be looking to avoid their third defeat in a row, after going down 41-20 away to Henley Hawks last weekend, when they host newly-promoted Chinnor today.

The home side make just one change to their starting line-up, with Dave Kimberley coming in at openside flanker in place of Jamie Rudkin, who went off early in the second half of the Henley match.

Bridgwater's problems in that game were not helped by having a player yellow-carded in each half against Henley. Danny Hodge was sin-binned just before half-time and Kimberley sat out 10 minutes in the second half.

Bridgwater & Albion (home v Chinnor, 3pm): S Osborne; J Edwards, T Elisara, L Messer, M Mangeolles; L Cozens, S Evans; S Carter, C McGrath, D Morton, D Hodge, S Hunt, D Kemmish, D Kimberley, B Purcell (capt). Reps: R Prescott, W Stiling/A Isaac, O Biggins, J Rudkin, T Thie/G Hancock.
