Getting there – by road: Leave M6 at Junction 31 and follow signs Left for Preston. Go up a steep hill (often a police speed trap on the hill, so stick to 30) and follow the road down to a mini roundabout (speed camera by the BP garage on the left). At the roundabout with the Hesketh Arms turn right into Blackpool Road. Go straight on over three sets of lights and just before a fourth set, the ground appears set slightly back on the left. Parking is mainly in the streets surrounding the ground.
By coach: Depart Ashton Gate 9am. Seats cost £22 (CATS members) and £24 (non-members).
By rail: Preston station is a mile and a half from the ground and takes around 25 minutes to walk
Last meeting: April 4, 2009 City 1 Preston 1
Biggest City win: April 20, 1985 City 4 Preston 0
Heaviest City defeat: February 25, 1955 Preston 5 City 0
How will it go by Andy Stockhausen: First game always difficult to call. I go for a narrow Preston win.
Words of wisdom: "On paper, Preston away is a tough game. But it's the first game – they don't know much about us and we don't know much about them. Anything can happen," – Bristol City goalkeeper Dean Gerken hedges his bets.
Just a thought: Preston are the only club to print an environmentally friendly match-day programme on recyclable paper.
Fancy a flutter? Paddy Power lay Preston at 11/10 to win with City at 13/5 and the draw 9/4. David Clarkson is 8/1 to score the first goal with Bet365.
