Longreach through in shootout success

GFA Sunday Minor Cup: Longreach Athletic Reserves played out a 10-goal thriller with Downend before scraping through 4-2 on penalties after a 5-5 draw in the first round of the GFA Sunday Minor Cup.

Goals from Leighton Davidson, Dan Theary and Chris Hewitt ensured extra-time for Athletic, and a double striker from Ross Davidson during the extra 30 minutes took the game to penalties.

And it was Athletic who held their nerve to come out on top in the shootout.

Elite Sats ran riot against Longwell Green to go through in emphatic style.

Rob Western scored six and Neil Cockram bagged a hat-trick as Elite ran out 12-3 winners.

AFC Keynsham also put their name in the hat for the second round with a tight 4-3 away win at West Country United, whose marksmen were John Arthur, Richard Gregory and Ben Jarvis.

BAWA went through, strikes John Mellion, Alan Tremlin, Steve Connor, Ben Moore and an own goal clinching a convincing 5-2 win over Mendip SBW.

Lee Doyle bagged a brace for Cathedral City in their 4-2 win over Nicholas Wanderers Sunday. Matthew Brock and Steve Heart were also on the scoresheet for City.

Sartan came out on top of an all- Wessex League tie with a thrilling 5-3 win over AMC United.

Lee Maggs bagged a brace and Luke Allan, Steven Shepherd and Andrew Sposito also found the net.

The Swan secured their place in the second round with an-action packed 8-4 win at SCS Sunday Reserves.

A Paul Kennedy hat-trick and two goals by Nathan Baird put them in command, while Daniel Langdon, Stephen Merchant and Matthew Robbins completed the rout.

BAWA Athletico went through after a tense 4-2 win over Brislington Badgers, and The Robins won 4-2 at home against Bemmydorn Spartans.

A brace from Mark O'Regan and goals from Liam O'Regan and Ez Singh helped First to a comfortable 4-0 win over LFB United.

UWE Dynamos came out on top of a tight affair against Wessex League rivals Hawkebury Upton Sunday.

Goals from James Cooke, Simon Featherby and Ola Sanusi were enough to give Dynamos a 3-2 win.

Portishead Rangers also made it into the second round after they comfortably beat South Bristol FC 5-0.

Shadwell Rovers beat DKL Athletico 4-3 to go through, as did Old Plough, who disposed of Bristol City Supporters Reserves 4-1.

Littlesea FC hammered Almondsbury Athletic 7-1, while Bristol Athletic A ran out 6-2 winners against Stapleton Cricketers.

Inter City FC complete the list of teams into the second round after a convincing 5-1 win over LB Sports.
