Help needed for Bristol art project
A pavilion-like shelter devised by artists Heather & Ivan Morison and commissioned by the Situations art programme at UWE, called The Shape of Things to Come, will be in place from the end of July to December.
The shelter and the accompanying six-month programme of events and discussions will explore the implications of drastic climate change for a future Bristol.
The structure will be raised through a community 'barn-raising' over one day. A barn-raising is a collaborative process for the erection of buildings and structures, known particularly for its use in the Amish communities of North America.
Volunteers are needed to get involved in the barn-raising on Saturday, July 25, especially those who would be willing to participate in the installation of the shelter.
It will take the form of the Venezuelan 'shabono' (a communal space built to withstand extreme heat) with a central open space in which performances and discussions can take place.
The timber structure will be made from trees from the artists' own Welsh arboretum onto which a series of triangular panels made from reclaimed car panels will bolted.
Everyone is welcome to attend the event on Saturday, July 25 as the barn-raising will be celebrated with music, children's workshops and a picnic between midday to 8pm.
If you would like to be involved in the barn-raising, call 328 1459 for more information.
