Hanham Under-10 weekend review

SHIREHAMPTON Colts Under-10s emerged with heads held high after fighting back bravely in game two of their goal-filled encounter with Division A leaders Nicholas Wanderers.

Despite battling displays by star man Callum Gundry-White, Ben Harvey and Jack Hooper, Shire fell to a 4-0 first-game defeat.

The second match was a much closer affair, with Jake Jones leading the Shire scoring with four goals and James Kautz and Pierce Lydon also netting in an exciting 7-6 defeat.

Harry Weston put in some super crosses and Charlie Hughes shone at the back but Shire could not quite force the equaliser their efforts deserved.

Brislington A lost ground of the leaders after slipping to a 5-2 aggregate defeat at Ashton Boys.

Ashton went 2-0 up inside 15 minutes as they punished defensive errors with ruthless efficiency.

Brislington were handed a lifeline on the stroke of half-time when star man Chris Badman pounced on a mix-up at the back to score.

But their comeback hopes proved short-lived as Ashton struck twice more in the second half to make it 4-1.

With Pierce Rogerson instrumental in most of their play, Brislington improved in game two and Jack Wheeler flashed an early effort wide before Dean Howlett put them ahead direct from a free-kick.

Once more, however, Brislington couldn't turn their dominance into more goals and Ashton pinched an equaliser at the death to clinch a comfortable overall success.

Avon Athletic proved too strong for Keynsham Town, winning their Division B fixture 8-3 on aggregate.

Josh Black proved a key figure in game one, defying Athletic time and again with his strong tackling and interceptions.

He could do little to stop Avon scoring the only goal of the match with a second-half breakaway effort and, despite Lochlainn Collins' industrious hold-up play, Town could not force an equaliser.

Avon started the second match playing down the slope and Keynsham struggled to get to grips with their opponents' attacking trio, finding themselves 4-1 down at half-time.

Joel Milhofer's fine finish, set up by a typical George Rooke charge through the middle, and Ben Sainsbury's tremendous strike from distance which hit the underside of the bar, were Keynsham's only real highlights.

They came out fired up after the interval, however, with Rooke receiving the man-of-the-match award for a combative performance and two-goal haul in the 7-3 defeat.

In Division C, Ashton Boys B maintained their 100 per cent away record with a battling 6-4 win over Mangotsfield United B.

Sheldon Chappell led the way with a hat-trick, while Charlie Saunders (2) and Aaron Higgins joined him on the scoresheet.
