Family dog dies in Lockleaze kitchen fire

Sunday, December 07, 2008, 21:39

A family dog died in a fire which destroyed the kitchen of a Bristol house.

A faulty dishwasher in the house in Hogarth Walk, Lockleaze, is thought to have caused the incident in the early hours of yesterday. A couple in their 60s, their daughter, her two children and her partner escaped but their Staffordshire Terrier died from inhaling smoke.

The family noticed the fire after the daughter smelled smoke.

Louise Hart, Avon Fire and Rescue Service spokeswoman, said: "There was no working smoke alarm and the family had a lucky escape.

"The message is always have smoke alarms and make sure they work."
