Britton secures federation prize
He poled worm and caster at full depth into the new, lakeside margins at 13 metres to the left of end peg 11 and brought fish in the 12oz to 4-0-0 bracket to the scales.
He said: "New building work has shortened the lake and created a new, vegetation free bank.
"The depth of water was just 16 inches and even though it was heavily coloured I could still see the fish feeding.
"I figured they were searching for worms in the new, loose earth so it was obvious what went on my hook.
"I caught a carp with almost every put-in following an exploratory first ten minutes. However, most of them weighed less than 1lb and from where I sat I could see that plenty of decent fish were being caught along the straight.
"It was touch and go who the winner would be right up to the scales man had finished his round."
Second place went to Wayne Garland, who drew peg nine on the straight for the second match running.
He long-poled paste over a light, micro and 4mm pellet feed which he cupped-in tight to the far lakeside margins
He said: "The carp were feeding in just 24 inches of water and amongst the overhanging vegetation.
"The carp would take the bait and dart into the reeds. Once there I had a 50/50 chance of getting them out and I lost almost as many fish as I caught."
The best weight to come from the bottom end of the lake fell to Brian Barker at peg two. He poled caster and chopped worm over a cat food ground bait and claimed third place with four carp and two skimmers weighing 12-6-0 gross.
Result: 1, Dave Britton 42-9-0, peg 11; 2, Wayne Garland 34-9-0, peg 9; 3, Brian Barker 12-6-0, peg 2; 4, Chris Young 10-11-0, peg 7; 5, Jackie Searle 6-3-0, peg 6; 6, Mike Smith 4-0-0, peg 4.
