Bath City hoping for a big crowd

Friday, January 30, 2009, 21:55

Bath City are hoping for a 1,000-plus crowd when Newport County visit Twerton Park today.

The Welshmen are sure to bring a strong following while the Romans are pushing for a play-off place.

"There should be a good crowd and a good atmosphere with Newport doing well. If we can get a decent side out I feel confident about us against anybody," said manager Adie Britton."

The bad news is that Bath are facing a centre half crisis. Regulars Matt Coupe and Chris Holland are both doubtful while right back Gethin Jones, who would normally switch inside, is nursing a groin strain.

Former Cheltenham Town central midfielder Adam Connolly is also battling against injury.

The Romans have two home games in four days as Thurrock visit Twerton Park on Tuesday night.

Bath City (from): Perrin, G Jones, Coupe, Holland, Rollo, Simpson, Hogg, Connolly, R Evans, Edwards, Gilroy, Douglas, Badman, S Jones, Slocombe, Gibb.

Weston-super-Mare have extended the loan of striker Emmanuel Williams from Blue Square Premier side Woking until April 17.

Andy Gurney's men are looking to get back to winning ways in today's home game against St Albans after their defeat at Newport County.

Weston received a big blow when they lost midfielder Ashan Holgate with an ankle injury just before halftime. There are fears that he could be out for six to 12 weeks.

Weston are also without left winger Mark McKeever, who will be out for three to five weeks with another ankle problem.

They will also miss central defender Charlie Comyn-Platt (suspension), but they are strengthened by the return of midfielder Adie Harris.

Weston-super-Mare (from): Northmore, Green, Parinello, Harris, Rand, Wells, Mulling, Williams, Partridge, McGregor, Willshire, Dean Grubb, Brown, Dayle Grubb.

Coach John Donoghue steps up to take temporary charge of Dorchester for today's game with Eastleigh.

A dramatic week at the Jewson Stadium saw the enforced departures of central defender Roy O'Brien and top scorer Jamie Mudge, who yesterday re-joined his former club Tiverton Town, and the resignation of manager Shaun Brooks.

Dorchester Town chairman Eddie Mitchell has also asked midfielder Danny Clay, central defender Patrece Liburd and relative newcomer Helder Rodrigues to leave the club.

Donoghue has several remaining players struggling for fitness with Mark Jermyn (knee) and striker Ryan Moss (ankle) injured.

Chairman's son Tom Mitchell remains out on loan at Gosport Borough, while Ivan Forbes is still on the path to regaining full fitness but may be drafted back early into the squad to face the Spitfires.

Dorchester (from): Stewart, Coward, Jermyn, Marsh-Brown, Smeeton, Bowles, Hill, Crittenden, Moss, Nicholson, Fogden, Gleeson, Watts, Peprah-Annan, Forbes, Taylor, Crichel.
