Bristol Rovers level with Leicester at the break

Saturday, November 01, 2008, 16:02

Half-time: Leicester City 0, Bristol Rovers 0

Craig Hinton had Bristol Rovers' best chance of a goal-less first half as the Pirates gave a decent account of themselves on their first visit to the Walkers Stadium.

There were few clear chances for either side in the opening 45 minutes, but central defender Hinton clearly knew he should have done better when he was allowed space to meet Stuart Campbell's 23rd-minute corner with his head, only to send his attempt from 12 yards over the top.

The home side, without a win in four games, had the first attempt after five minutes, but Steve Phillips made a comfortable save despite Andy King's 25-yarder bouncing just in front of him.

Then it needed an important clearance from Byron Anthony after Patrick Kisnorbo nodded down a Max Gradel free kick.

At the other end, Rickie Lambert's lay-off to strike partner Jo Kuffour produced a first-time shot from the former Bournemouth player which tested Leicester keeper Paul Henderson.

The Pirates had a spot of luck just before the half-hour when Max Gradel shot through a crowd of players, only for the ball to his team-mate Matty Fryatt on the six-yard line, which gave the visitors the chance to clear.

Rovers suffered an injury blow when left-back Aaron Lescott limped off, to be replaced by Joe Jacobson, but Paul Trollope's men deserved to be level at the break.
