Weale may still have a future at Bristol City
Man of the moment Weale is currently enjoying a superb loan spell at his previous club Yeovil Town that saw him head a stoppage-time equaliser in Tuesday's 2-2 draw with Hereford.
The 27-year-old is out of contract at the end of the season and Johnson wishes to speak to Weale to see where his future lies.
"We know that he was unlucky with us," said Johnson.
"There were two good goalkeepers (Weale and Adriano Basso) competing for one spot. He never got the opportunity to get in and stay in but that is how it goes sometimes.
"He was always a serious number one contender here but when you look at the situations he found himself in he has had three massive injuries, they kept him out for long periods and he might have forgotten that himself.
"He came in and then he went on loan (to Hereford) and got injured there and he came here with a cruciate injury and spent a year not doing much.
"But he has done fantastic for Yeovil and he needed those games.
"The one thing I didn't know about him, I must admit, is how good at heading the ball he is. I knew he was a goalkeeper but he is a striker as well so I may have to charge Terry (Skiverton) double.
"I will sit down with him at the end of the season and we will take it from there."
