Wilson is staying, says Bristol City boss
The Welsh Under-21 international centre-back returned to Ashton Gate this week following a successful three-month loan spell with the West London club.
Wilson joined the Bees in early August and made 13 first team appearances, helping the West London club establish themselves among the frontrunners in League Two.
But Robins manager Johnson today sought to scotch rumours linking the 19-year-old Academy product with a permanent move to Brentford when the January transfer window opens.
He confirmed: "James Wilson will not be going back to Brentford despite what others are saying.
"That's not to say I won't consider loaning him out again if I think that is in his best interests. But for now, he will be staying with us and playing in the reserves.
"He did very well at Brentford and the move worked out well for them, for us and for James himself. He's benefited from playing regular first-team football and it's enabled us to assess how close he is to our first team. He's now more professional in the way he goes about things.
"We'll monitor his situation in the reserves and assess things at the right time later in the season."
Johnson will decide over the next couple of weeks which Academy players he wishes to retain on professional contracts.
Second year scholars Ashley Kington, Robert Stambolziev, Luke Wilkinson, Joe Edwards, Marlon Jackson, George Boon, Chris Williams, Ross Stearn and Joe McClellan are all hoping to land deals.
"It's a worrying time for those lads," said Johnson. "They're unsure as to their future and they're all waiting to be told what will happen.
"It's something I'm looking at now and they'll probably be told before the end of this month."
Ryan Child, the 2006 Evening Post Shooting Star winner was released by City at the end of last year and is currently at university in Chicago on a football scholarship.
