Bristol dance school wins Welsh championship events

Tuesday, November 17, 2009, 07:00

A Bradley Stoke dance school has been celebrating after sweeping the boards at the Welsh championships.

Three groups of street dancers from Fahrenheit studios gained first place in their category at the United Dance Organisation championships in Newport.

Groups BS1, Escape, and K-Boom all competed at the event to mixed tracks and each one was thrilled with their win.

Dance centre manager Miraille Dehaney, 39, said: "They did really well last year – at the same competition they came fourth and fifth and did a lot of solos and duos but this is fantastic.

"It's also a big thank you to their dance teacher Kane Silver."

The groups had already performed well in the world championships earlier this year, taking a first and a fifth place.

The team of parents competing at the event in Blackpool also came fourth although dance centre manager Ms Dehaney said it was an experience not to be repeated.

She said: "I think the parents were the entertainment, but I'd never do it again.

"I much prefer to be on the other side."

Bradley Stoke

Bradley Stoke was named after the local Bradley Brook and Stoke Brook streams and was planned in the 1970s with building starting in 1987. The town is close to its planned population of 25,000
Business parks at the north of the town, the Aztec West business area and two supermarkets provide jobs but Bradley Stoke is a commuter town, with many people communiting to Bristol.
With the increase in interest rates in the 1990s and the subsequent housing slump, it became nicknamed "Sadly Broke" by some Bristolians due to the rising levels of negative equity within the area.
Now Bradley Stoke has six primary schools, a leisure centre with a swimming pool and library, and The Willow Brook Centre, with shops, a hotel and a restaurant opened in October 2008.
