BATH CITY 4 BASINGSTOKE TOWN 3: Bath City boss Adie Britton hopes his side's cracking comeback against Basingstoke Town will provide a springboard for both improved attendances and improved results at Twerton Park.

Mike Perrott's injury-time winner secured City's first home success since August 15 in front of 685 supporters, the biggest crowd at Twerton Park so far this season.

Britton is hoping the fans will be back in force on Saturday to cheer his side on in their crucial FA Cup fourth qualifying round tie against AFC Totton.

"The fans have got to come back after that, haven't they?" said Britton after the thrilling 4-3 victory, which saw City battle back from 2-0 down to grab the points.

"It was important we had a win here at Twerton. Our form here has been indifferent for a while – we play well away but not here – and we just needed to make sure the crowd were on side for next week because it is a massive game for us.

"In the end, we created so many chances today it would have been a travesty had we not won the game."

A home victory looked the least likely result during the first half as City produced a woeful display, particularly at the back where the pace of Jahson Downes and former Chippenham striker David Pratt caused constant problems.

So it was little surprise when Basingstoke scored twice in the opening 31 minutes through Downes, the diminutive striker nutmegging keeper Steve Perrin for the first and then lashing home a stunning 25-yard drive for the second.

However, City grabbed a lifeline just before half-time when man-of-the-match Gethin Jones headed home Richard Evans' cross and they were level two minutes into the second period after Florin Pelecaci's pass was diverted into his own net by Sean Hankin.

Things got worse for the Basingstoke skipper in the 70th minute when he was shown his second yellow card – nine were issued altogether by over-officious referee Ben Knight – and, from the subsequent free-kick, Jones drilled home his second of the afternoon to put City ahead.

The visitors looked to have salvaged a point when Ashley Mitchell came off the bench to make it 3-3 with a free header, but City sub Perrott bundled home a free-kick in the second minute of stoppage time to clinch a dramatic win.

Striker Kaid Mohamed should be fit for next weekend's cup clash, despite being taken off on a stretcher in the second half with a dead leg.
