Britton's anger after Bath City defeat

AFC Wimbledon 3 Bath City 2: Adie Britton was fuming after watching his Bath City side lose 3-2 to the league leaders in front of more than 3,000 fans at Kingsmead.

Britton was angered by the officials' decision to award Wimbledon a penalty two minutes before half-time, with City feeling the decision was harsh.

The Bath coach said: "The referee was in the best position, he saw it and didn't think it was a penalty, but the linesman has then given it.

"I spoke to the ref at half-time and he said 'I know I have made a mistake', but that's no consolation when you have just lost a game 3-2."

The disputed penalty was given after a challenge by Steve Jones on Wimbledon's Jon Main, who then sent Steve Perrin the wrong way from the spot.

With the City players still arguing with referee Kendall when they emerged for the second half, it was little surprise when the Dons increased their lead. On the hour mark, Elliot Godfrey put in a cross from the left which Main fired home, although the ball may well have deflected off City defender Chris Holland.

City pulled a goal back when substitute Dave Gilroy headed home, but within seconds the Dons had restored their two-goal advantage when Godfrey latched on to a through ball and lobbed Perrin.

Bath, however, were not finished and Darren Edwards pounced on a poor clearance from home keeper James Pullen to reduce the deficit.

Gilroy then missed a sitter at one end, while Danny Kedwell fired straight at Perrin at the other, to give the Dons their seventh consecutive victory and maintain their six-point lead at the top of Blue Square South.
