My awful Catch 22 situation
I HAVE been signing on since May 16 2012 , since losing my babysitting job. As of yet I haven't received any benefits, despite making numerous calls , and being told a different story every time I phone.
The phone number is an 0845 number which is costing my parents, who are struggling themselves, a fortune. I have been offered a mandatory work placement, working 30 hours a week, which I want to do because I want a job. If I don't do the mandatory work placement I won't get my benefits, but as I haven't received any benefits yet I won't be able to buy food and will have to work all day without a meal.
This is a Catch 22. Even slaves were fed. I have written to my MP, who said they would talk to the benefit people but it is still not resolved.

“I don't understand the benefits system and I can appreciate that you are in need, but the slave analogy is not a good one to use. Slaves were not free to feed themselves or to work to earn money to buy food: You are.
Have you tried applying for a Crisis Loan?”
