Whitchurch are real bright Sparks

Avon Youth League: Whitchurch Sports A turned in a superb second-half performance to pip hosts Winterbourne United 2-0 in Under-12 Division II.

Luke Trowbridge had the best chance of a goalless first half and the Whitchurch player was unlucky to see his superb strike crack against the crossbar.

Whitchurch finally got a grip on the game after the break and incisive attacking play led to Josh Pitts putting them 1-0 up from Jacob Sparks' corner.

Sparks was again the creator for the second goal, his through pass sending Robbie Dixon away to slot home.

United goalkeeper Ben Slade excelled with a full-length save while Will Partridge had their only chance late in the game but shot just wide.

In Division III, Oldland Abbotonians bounced back from their disappointing defeat against Fishponds OB by winning 5-2 at Totterdown POB.

Oldland made a flying start when Charlie Millard won a corner and James Denyer converted Rob Bool's cross from close range.

Totterdown forced an equaliser when Alex Britton could only parry a free-kick, before taking the lead with a fine team goal just before the break. Had it not been for Hayden Tape's excellent defending, it could have been worse for the visitors.

Oldland looked more settled in the second half, however, and Millard levelled when he ran on to a through ball from Denyer and shot inside the near post.

Skipper Rob Bool ran on to a Tape pass to smash them into the lead and quickly got his second, capitalising on a poor clearance to net from a tight angle.

Millard finished the scoring when he ran on to a Bool through ball, rounded the keeper and tucked it home from an acute angle.

In the same section, Thornbury Falcons won 3-1 at Keynsham Town.

Chances came and went at both ends early on until Falcons' Harry Shipp beat the offside trap to slot past the keeper.

Within seconds of the restart, Dan Worsley followed Shipp's example with a near-identical goal to make it 2-0 at half-time.

Jordan Saxton and Kieron Bancroft were unlucky not to increase Falcons' advantage after the break, while keeper Matt Grey kept the visitors ahead with some fine stops before Saxton smashed home Thornbury's third from distance. The home side pulled a goal back in the final minute following a defensive mix-up but the day belonged to Thornbury.

Aaron Criddle's two second-half goals and a Brandon Tyler strike earned Bristol Rovers SCJ a 3-0 Division IV victory over an Ashton Boys C team who never let their heads drop.

Another inspirational performance from new captain Charlie Peacock saw St Nicholas B beat Ingleside 4-3 – their second victory of the Division V season.

Jake Thomas and Luke Daverson gave Saints the edge in midfield but it was Ingleside who took the lead with a good strike, which just beat Saints keeper Jody George.

The hosts roared back to snatch a 3-1 lead thanks to goals from Peacock, from Daverson's corner, Joe Hobby, his first goal of the season from the penalty spot, and Ryan King, with a fierce right-footed finish.

Ingleside were far from finished, however, and pulled one back before going on to equalise from the penalty spot, only for Peacock to wreck their hopes by squeezing the ball home for Saints' dramatic winner.

James Fisher was commanding at the heart of the Saints defence alongside Harry White, while left-back Danny Roberts produced some excellent last-ditch tackles.

Star man George, playing for the first time in goal, made a fabulous last-gasp stop low to his right to ensure victory for his side.
