A GROUP of students from Brislington Enterprise College (BEC) has given a local community centre a makeover.

Over five weeks, the youngsters worked with the management committee of Hungerford Road Community Centre to paint the kitchen and entrance hallway.

Their efforts did not stop at painting. The group also helped plan the necessary equipment, visited a local DIY store to buy equipment, then wrote letters to the Hartcliffe B & Q, which supported the project by donating damaged stock for free.

Alistair Dale, from the college, said: "Hungerford Road Community Centre is just a stone's throw away from BEC and plays a large part in community life.

"We are really pleased to be able to give something positive to the centre and our students have worked incredibly hard to achieve this.

"We have just been awarded a total of £1,800 to makeover the garden at the back of the club where we will be clearing, planting, building decking and making flower beds. In addition, we are also involved in designing an art piece for display in Wicklea Community Centre, so a busy time ahead."

The students follow an alternative curriculum and are working towards a qualification from Asdan, which recognises skills for life and for employment.
