I preferred the crashed rocket

Damian Hirst's giant tin collection girl is quite a statement, but I admit that I preferred the crashed green rocket on the roof as part of the graffiti exhibition a few years ago.

The Royal West of England Academy (RWA) in Bristol exists for anyone with an interest in art or design.

Through our programme of events, exhibitions and education, we aim to heighten the knowledge, understanding and enjoyment of art for everyone who visits.

We endeavour to be inclusive with a broad agenda that includes film, lectures and music; our education programme is for all levels of ability and understanding, and we welcome visits from families and schools.

We are a self-supporting charity, one of only five Royal Academies of Art in the UK, and receive no national or local government funding to support our work or maintain our Grade II listed building.

In our cafe – Papadeli – you can enjoy coffee and cake or tuck into tapas with glass of wine while perusing the changing exhibitions in the main cafe space.

The RWA can offer a unique, stunning setting for a party, wedding or other event with our galleries available for hire to make your occasion truly special.

Full details of what's on and our education programme are available on our website, or please call us on 0117 2448319 for more information.
