Bristol pensioners celebrate getting their voices heard

Wednesday, October 28, 2009, 07:00

These pensioners are celebrating two years of their achievements as part of groups formed to get their voices heard in the community.

Age Concern Bristol launched the Go Getters groups in South Bristol in 2007 for older people who felt they were facing issues in their community that were going unnoticed.

With a National Lottery grant, Age Concern Bristol has been able to set up groups which run clubs and events to get older people more involved in their communities.

At yesterday's event, held at the Arnos Vale Hotel in Brislington, members of the groups celebrated together and there was a performance from a line dancing group formed by the Go Getters in Withywood.

Nic Lewis, who set up the Go Getters scheme said: "I am so proud of what everyone involved has achieved in the last two years."
