Bristol cemetery walk will lay to rest myths about bats
The following day, one of the cemetery's regular heritage tours will be held.
Bat expert James Field will give an illustrated talk about some of our British bats, how to identify them, and how to protect them for the future.
He said: "This walk will give people a chance to find out more about one of the most threatened yet fascinating species in the UK today.
"This is very much a family event being really educational and fun for everyone – no matter what the age."
By using bat detectors James can pinpoint the bats so there could be a chance to spot one or two different species.
The walk will last about 90 minutes and is on a strictly first-come, first-served basis.
Places must be booked in advance. It costs only £3 per adult and £1.50 for children with proceeds going towards the Arnos Vale restoration fund.
Anyone interested in taking part should wear warm clothing, sensible footwear and take a torch. No dogs allowed.
For details of the time and meeting place please call Mary Wood on 972 1079 (evenings or weekends) or email marywood@talktalk.net.
The heritage tour will be led by tour guide Charlotte Conway who, although new to Arnos Vale, has previously conducted tours at Highgate in London.
She will explain the history behind the cemetery's buildings and graves.
The tour costs £3 and starts at 10am. Booking is essential because places are limited. Please contact Dave Napier on 01275 542491 or 07891 675373, or email him on dave.napier@blueyonder.co.uk.
Contractors are now nearing the completion of the work at the 45-acre site with the major buildings having their final touches and many old paths resurfaced to improve access.
