All change in South West Winter League

Saturday, October 31, 2009, 07:00

Preston Innovations Thatchers go into next week's third round of the South West Winter League in pole position after finishing a point ahead of previous leaders Bathampton in the second round, fished on the Bristol Avon, between Newbridge and Kelston.

A clear and slow-flowing Bristol Avon at Newbridge and Kelston made it hard going, with most competitors relying on the odd roach and perch.

However, the bream did appear during the last two hours and it was the Newbridge stretch at Bath that came up with the heaviest weights.

The top individual was Mike Withy, who fished worm and caster at 10 metres off Newbridge 65 and brought seven quality bream and a few perch totalling 43-12-0 to the scales.

Close behind came Lance Tucker, who fished a similar match at Newbridge 38 and weighed in a 40-13-0 late catch of bream.

Results – Individuals: 1, Mike Withy (Sensas Veals) 43-12-0, Newbridge 65; 2, Lance Tucker (Sensas Thyers) 40-13-0, Newbridge 28; 3, Darren Gilman (Sensas Bathampton Avon Aquatics) 21-6-0, Newbridge 33; 4, Chris Gay (Maver Veals) 18-4-8; 5, Jeff Grant (Bristol Angling Centre) 10-7-0; 6, Vincent Lunn (Amalgamated Fisheries Ltd-Keynsham Angling) 10-2-0.
