Golding claims victory at Kingston Seymour

Saturday, October 24, 2009, 07:00

The top end of Match Pool came up with the heaviest three weights in the second round of the South West Disabled and Over-50s Tuesday Series, fished at Acorn Carp Fishery, Kingston Seymour.

Victory went to Colin Golding, who poled soft pellet at 10 metres off peg 14 and notched up his second win of the four-match series with 60-14-0 of carp to almost 4-0-0.

He said: "I fed a few samples of 6mm soft pellet over the top of my float at the start and, by feeding a few pellets, little and often, I managed to keep catching for the whole six-hour match."

Second place went to Bob 'The Bread' Price, who poled paste over a 4mm pellet feed at seven metres off peg 15 and netted 46-8-0 of mostly carp.

He said: "I caught as many fish as Colin and some were bigger. Unfortunately, I never caught enough of the bigger ones to make a winning difference."

Martin Alexander worked hard at end peg 17 to coax 37-8-0 of mostly carp to his net. He poled soft 6mm pellet into every possible fish-holding nook and cranny within range but, unfortunately, the result did not justify the means.

Top of the silverfish category was Bill Ferris, who poled caster and maggot at six metres centre off peg one and weighed in 12-0-0 of skimmers and perch, plus three carp worth an additional 10-14-0.

Results, overall: 1, Colin Golding 60-14-0, peg 14; 2, Bob "The Bread" Price 46-8-0, peg 15; 3, Martin Alexander 37-8-0, peg 17; 4, Ted Bethel (Alcove AC) 32-14-0, peg 4; 5, Bill Ferris 22-14-0. peg 1; 6,, Harry Muir 23-8-0, peg 6. Silverfish: 1, Bill Ferris 12-0-0, peg 1. League: 1, Colin Golding 123-10-0; 2, Bob "The Bread" Price 86-14-0.

It's a question which arrises every four years: should Great Britain register a GB football team at the Olympics?
