'The Bread' proves to be the toast of Acorn Carp

Saturday, November 07, 2009, 07:00

Bob "The Bread" Price clinched the South West Disabled & Over-50s Tuesday series with 41-4-0 to spare following a superb 108-8-0 victory in the final round at Acorn Carp Fishery.

The south-west wind that was forecast came as promised, but it was high and never touched the surface of Match Pool. All but one competitor made a slow start and the lake did not hit good form until the last two hours of the six hour match.

The only exception was the winner who drew to fish the bottom bowl and set about fishing the waters of peg two with soft pellet and paste which he poled to full depth at 11 metres centre.

He said: "The first few fish came to paste but I never started catching seriously until about 90 minutes into the match when the carp started attacking the bait as soon as it hit the surface.

"I immediately switched tack and soon had them taking a soft 6mm pellet hookbait from a shallow 8" rig."

Second place was taken by Martin Alexander who, despite finding the going tough and frustrating at peg 14, still managed to make-up a 28-10-0 deficit and finish second in the league.

He poled maggot all around all day and lost an estimated 20 carp on his way to accruing 75-8-0 of carp to 6lb plus the top silverfish catch of 13-0-0. League leader Colin Golding made a bad draw and slipped to third place in the league after finishing a disappointing fifth in the final round. He poled soft pellet over the same at seven metres off peg 15 for 29-2-0 of carp and 3-0-0 of mixed silvers.

Bill Ferris topped the silverfish league table with a combined weight of 25-6-0 and took the silvers pools money on the day by default. He poled maggot and caster both into open water and the lakeside margins of peg 16 for a 7-2-0 of skimmers, roach and perch.
