SIXTEEN lime trees in a Weston-super-Mare park are to be felled.

North Somerset Council is to fell the trees along the southern boundary of Grove Park between the bandstand and car park.

The work is necessary because as the trees have grown their crowns have become dense and congested, leaving little room for them to develop properly and making the area dark and unwelcoming.

By removing the lowest quality trees in the group and selecting the best ones to remain, the area will become lighter and more pleasant. Grove Park opened in 1891 and is registered as a park of special historic interest.
