An adventure playground in St Paul's has had a revamp by a team of volunteers from the Prince's Trust.

The 11 pupils from the City of Bristol College spent two weeks painting a large wooden ship at the adventure playground on St Thomas Street.

The youngsters turned it into a pirate ship, creating a pirate, fitting a ship's wheel and painting waves down its side.

They also painted the side of a nearby community building to make it brighter and more fun for the children.

The volunteers also raised £150 through a cake sale, raffle and car windscreen wash to buy the paints, brushes and rollers they needed.

James Leonard, 39, a Prince's Trust team leader at the college, said: "We encourage them to do everything themselves. It gives the volunteers a real sense of ownership and achievement."

The playground was opened by boxing promoter and Bristol Boxing Gym owner Chris Sanigar.
