Zip me up
IN the current economic climate, more people than ever want a cost-effective, frugal and practical mode of transport to get them to work. Unsurprisingly then, the sale of affordable scooters has risen considerably. One of the most popular manufacturers winning sales is Piaggio with its Zip50 we look at here.
The styling of scooters has improved immeasurably over the past few years with even the cheapest looking sleek and classy. The Zip50 is certainly no exception to the rule. Available in three attractive colours of black, red or white or if you prefer the Italian versions they are Nero Lucido, Rosso Dragon or Bianco Ottico.

At around £1,250, the Piaggio Zip50 offers exceptional value for money. It's not only inexpensive to purchase but is also cheap to run, with outstanding fuel economy, low maintenance costs and miniscule insurance premiums. Better still, the Zip's two-stroke engine produces low CO2 emissions. This in turn means cheap road tax and you'll not be clobbered by any congestion charge fees. In many towns and cities across the country, parking for scooters is free – or at least cheaper than with alternative types of transport.
Being light and strong, the Zip50 lives up to its name by being extremely manoeuvrable about town. It's simplicity itself to ride, very stable, offers a comfortable ride and stops well with good brakes (hydraulic disc at the front with drum at the rear) that halt the scooter safely under virtually all road surface conditions.

The Zip50 may be inexpensive but there's nothing budget about the overall quality of this machine which is well built and robust. With its 'twist and go' style automatic transmission, it's very simple to ride, too.
Storage facilities on board are beneath a height-adjustable seat concealing ample storage for your full face helmet; a lockable glove box, wide footrest and bag hook.
Piaggio are noted for producing dependable machines and the Zip 50 is stylish too, so it's hardly surprising that Piaggio is selling them by the shipload around the world. If you are in the market for a low-priced runabout scooter, then it's worth checking out the Zip50, in stock at Fowlers now. Call 0117 977 0466.
