PRIMARY schools from around Bristol have caught the rugby bug thanks to Bristol's community department.

More than 60 pupils, 10 teachers and 30 parents from St Barnabas, Barrs Court, Courtney, Longwell Green, Christ Church, The Park, Parkwall, Beacon Rise and Hanham Abbots Junior enjoyed the culmination of six weeks of rugby tuition at Keynsham RFC.

Bristol community manager Ben Breeze said: "The introduction of tag rugby to the Hanhan, Kingswood and Longwell Green areas of Bristol has made a hugely positive impact on the schools.

"The schools are arranging future fixtures against each other so the pupils could carry on the good work started by the Bristol Rugby community department.

"Congratulations must go to all the participating pupils.

"Through the entire programme their conduct and progress has been a joy to watch and we look forward to watching then on a rugby field in the future."

In the first of six EDF Energy tag festivals this season, Cadbury Heath were declared the winners because they had conceded fewer tries than their opponents.

Cadbury Heath have now qualified to play in the final to be held prior to a Guinness Premiership clash at the Memorial Stadium later this season.
