YOUNG musicians and singers will take the stage in Chipping Sodbury on Monday to perform what they have learned as part of a council-run youth music project.

They will be performing music and songs recorded during Future Sounds workshops run by South Gloucestershire Council for 11 to 19-year-olds. The workshops, held in Chipping Sodbury, Yate and Wickwar, involved playing instruments, writing songs and learning how to be a DJ.

For many, the performance in Chipping Sodbury Town Hall during National Youth Work Week will be their first experience of playing to a live audience.

Future Sounds project manager Andy Cargil said: "The project provides a great opportunity for young people with an interest in music to evolve their skills. The feedback of the students from the first six months of the scheme has been really positive and I know our young bands are really looking forward to this opportunity to play in front of their friends and family."

The under-19s alcohol-free event starts at 7pm. Tickets cost £2 in advance or £3 on the door. For more information email youthforum@southglos.gov.uk or phone 01454 865740.
