It will be a busy evening tomorrow night at the Fry Club – 15 acts will be doing their best to impress the judges and get through to next weekend's grand final of Search for a Star at Keynsham's Fry Club.

Alongside 14 solo artists, the only band playing will be Last Orderz.

Drummer Alex Elvin, 17, from Bedminster Down, singer and guitarist Jack Riddiford, 17, from Bishopsworth, guitarist Tom Smith, 18, from Headley Park, and bass player Nick Townley, 17, from Bedminster Down, have been together for about two years.

The boys may still be studying, but they have already played gigs at several Bristol venues.

They will perform a new song written in the last few weeks as well as Elaine, a track off their new EP.

Alex said: "The heat went well and it was good to watch the other acts. It was nice to play at a slightly more relaxed event than some of our more hectic gigs."

Jade Wilkinson, 16, from Swindon, will be singing Run to You by Whitney Houston and Stand Up for Love by Destiny's Child.

Jade, who is in a local choir and has performed in musicals at her local theatre, said: "I thought the heat was quite difficult but I can't wait for the semi-final."

Charli Parsons, 16, will be travelling in from Moreton-in-Marsh in the Cotswolds for the semi-final.

She has chosen a song she also sang in the first heat – There Are Worse Things I Could Do, from Grease. She said: "I enjoyed the heat because it was good to get a nice reaction from the audience. I'll give the semi-final my best shot."

Alan Green, 18, from Easton-in- Gordano, is in his final year at Gordano School and is going on to study at Bristol Institute of Modern Music.

He is playing guitar and singing two of his own songs – Flying Solo and Bare Dreams.

Kate Harris, 18, has not decided what she will be singing yet.

Kate, from Chepstow, is in her final year at Wyedean Sixth Form College. She said: "I didn't think I would get through the heat. I went to watch last year's final, and I thought the standard in my heat was as good as that. I am really pleased to have made it to the semi finals."

Sarah Waddington will be playing piano and singing one of her own songs called Let's Stare, and 60s soul tune The Dark End of the Street.

The 16-year-old, from Kingswood, said: "The heat was fun and I was glad to get through – I'm really looking forward to tomorrow night."

Mark Stacey, 25, from Whitchurch, has not decided what he wants to sing yet. Mark, who manages a plumbing firm as well as working as an entertainer in pubs and clubs, said: "I am going to try my best to get through to the next stage of the competition."

Sasha Brown, 21, from Downend, will be singing songs by Whitney Houston and Alicia Keys.

She said: "I was really surprised how many people were outstanding in the heat. I am looking forward to tomorrow night, now I have done it once I am not too nervous."

Helen Marles, 17, from Trowbridge, will be singing A Fine Fine Line, from the puppet-themed musical Avenue Q, and the Broadway song Easy Money. She said: "After the heat went really well, I am excited about tomorrow night."

Charlotte Day, from Bath, will be singing Here I Am by Leona Lewis and You Might Need Somebody by Shola Ama. The 19-year-old, a PA, said: "Everyone in the heat was amazing, I would have found it difficult to choose between them all.

"I was glad to get through to the semi-final, and I am just going to do my best."

Georgina Coles, 16, of Longwell Green, was a finalist last year and is back for more this year.

She will be singing I Wish I Was A Punk Rocker by Sandi Thom and A Fine Fine Line from Avenue Q.

She said: "I felt like I could have done better in the heat, but I made it through. I am nervous about tomorrow night but looking forward to it."

Holly Byrd, 20, from Mangotsfield, works as an optical assistant at Vision Express. Holly, who will be singing My Immortal by Evanescence and Get Happy by Judy Garland, said: "I am excited and nervous at the same time about the semi-final. Hopefully it will go well."

Also taking part will be Kerri Snow, 18, from Filton, Kirsty Clinch, 20, from Wiltshire and Lucy Curtis, 16, from Clifton. The Grand Final will be on Sunday, May 17. Tickets cost £6 for adults and £3 for children but will not be available on the night.
