Yeovil Town's move for Cheltenham Town striker Damian Spencer has been rebuffed.

The Glovers had hoped to sign the 27-year-old former Bristol City man, pictured right, but the Robins have blocked the move.

Cheltenham chairman Paul Baker said: "We received an approach from another League One club to take Damian on loan until the end of the season but turned it down."

Yeovil manager Terry Skiverton said: "I like Damian as a player and I played against him in the reserves a few weeks ago when he was a real handful.

"He's someone I admire and he might have been the right type of character to bring in but there's nothing going on between the clubs at the moment.

"I do need someone up there with a bit of presence who can give us another option. If we are chasing the game we can be a bit one-dimensional at the moment.

"But it's got to be the right deal for the club and it's got to be right for the squad. If we can find someone to meet that criteria then we might bring someone in."

Skiverton intended to give new signing Danny Hutchins an immediate debut against Hereford last night. The game with the Bulls was postponed a little more than an hour before kick off after heavy rain left the pitch waterlogged.

Skiverton said he swooped to recruit Hutchins on loan from Tottenham Hotspur yesterday morning after injuries ruled out Craig Alcock and Lee Peltier.

Alcock has sustained a knee injury and Peltier is struggling with an ankle problem received in Saturday's defeat at Walsall.

"In the end I'm probably pleased the game is off because Nathan Smith was out injured as well as Craig and Lee," said Skiverton.

"I was even contemplating playing myself, but we've brought Danny in from Spurs and he'll be a great addition to the squad.

"He's an exciting young lad who we've had watched and was on our radar.

"We weren't looking to bring him in just yet, because he's really one for the future.

"But he would have started tonight given the injury situation. It would have been a big occasion for him and nice for the fans to see some new blood out there."

Skiverton had no complaints about last night's postponement, feeling it was important to keep the pitch in reasonable shape ahead of Saturday's home game with Carlisle.

He said: "We saw the state of the pitch a few weeks ago and the club's done an excellent job to get it back into decent condition. But if we'd have played on it tonight it would have ruined it for the five home games we've got in March.

"They are vital games for us and we need the pitch to be spot on for the way that we try to play football.

"We don't want it having big lumps on it so that when you go to kick the ball it bounces over your foot.

"I'm disappointed for the supporters because they would have been looking forward to the game but the extra few days will give the injured lads time to recover from their knocks."
