Volunteers are appealing for new recruits to help them maintain a garden at Yatton Railway Station.

The Friends of Yatton Station Garden are calling on residents in the village to come and lend a hand at a gardening session there next Monday from 10am to noon. The group, which has been running for almost 10 years, restored the piece of garden next to the station.

The work party is part of a five-month campaign called CSV Action Earth, supported by Morrisons supermarket.

The campaign is organised by the national charity Community Service Volunteers and involves more than 900 voluntary organisations, businesses and community groups, undertaking projects that are of immediate and lasting benefit to the environment.

Project leader Hilary Beck said: "Anyone is welcome to come along and keep the garden blooming. It's not hard work, but very rewarding."

"We know people love to see the garden when they use the station and it has been real fun to restore and maintain it, which we have been doing for almost 10 years now.

"We would be happy to help new volunteers learn about gardening and hope to see some new faces on the day."

Anyone wanting to get involved should just turn up at the station or contact Hilary on 01934 834889.
