A COMBINED Yatton and Cheddar Under-16s team knocked over a strong Keynsham side to lift the Bristol Junior Combination Plate at a cold and wet Norton Lane, home of Bristol Barbarians.

The game was hanging in the balance during a tense and nervy first half, with the scores locked at 3-3, thanks to a penalty from Yatton's Jack Edwards, that was cancelled out by his counterpart Kieran Hill.

But the combined team got the breakthrough on the stroke of half-time when Oli Cornish darted over for a try, converted by Edwards, to make it 10-3 at the break.

YC's extended their lead with another well-struck penalty from Edwards, before Lewis Hynam rounded off a try, which was started way back in his own half by winger Kody Mortimer. Keynsham battle bravely, but the combined side held on for a memorable win.

The plucky visitors never gave in, scoring two tries of their own from Keadean Anderson and Liam Noble, who also added a conversion.

But the home side had too much fire power and pulled clear with tries by centre's James Shacknell and James Floyd, full-back George Hamilton, No 8 Ed Tait and wing Thishi Manchanayake.

Fly-half Kieran Harris booted three conversions for the Henbury-based outfit.

Two tries from Ryan Barrow helped Nailsea & Backwell Under-15s to a comfortable 36-0 victory over Weston.

The Seasiders were no pushover, and restricted the Ravens to a 12-0 lead at the interval. But Dave Hudson's side turned on the afterburners in the second spell and raced clear, with further tries by Jack Sonpilla, Rob Pardham, Josh Collins and Freddie Cheesewright, who also slotted three conversions, secured the victory.
