YATE teenager Isabelle King spends hours of her spare time looking after unwanted and stray cats for a Bristol charity.

But when she had to miss out on a sponsored walk in aid of The Moggery in Bishopston, she decided to organise her own fundraising effort to help the cat rescue centre.

Isabelle also enrolled three of her friends to walk with her on a four-mile route around Yate and the girls now hope their combined effort will have raised about £300. Isabelle, of Village Close, is just 13, but helps out as a volunteer at The Moggery every other Saturday.

She eventually hopes to work with animals.

She said: "I just like giving a hand to look after the cats. We've always had pets at home, although we haven't got any cats at the moment, and sometimes I am tempted to bring some of the rescue cats home with me."

Isabelle was joined on her ramble by Becky Biggs and sisters Becky and Abi Woodington, who all live in Yate. Abi is 11, the others are 13 and all four girls attend Chipping Sodbury School.

Isabelle's mum, Breige, accompanied the girls on their trek.

She said: "I'm very proud of Isabelle because most teenagers wouldn't give up their weekends to do voluntary work and proud of all of them for completing the walk."
