YATE were given a timely reminder that their play-off berth is far from secure as they were thrashed at Wimborne in Division One South & West of the Evo-Stik Southern League.

Lodge Road boss Rob Cousins had warned his side last week that they had to step up a couple of gears following some flat performances and his point was proved here.

The visitors started the game well and took an early lead, but the Dorset side had turned things around by half-time and went on to run out convincing winners.

Yate took an 11th-minute lead when Edd Vahid headed in from a corner, but the Bluebells held their advantage for less than ten minutes.

Wimborne equalised on 20 minutes, Shaun Brian scoring in similar circumstances to Vahid, meeting a corner to head firmly past visiting goalkeeper Lubos Ancin.

The home side went ahead just after the half-hour, Nathan Peprah-Annan feeding Jon Blake, who cut inside and fired past Ancin with the aid of a sizeable deflection.

Peprah-Annan added a spectacular third goal just short of the hour mark, cutting in from the left to score with a tremendous 30-yard blast that gave the goalkeeper no chance.

Seven minutes later, the hosts' Adam Costello fired the ball across the face of goal and Blake arrived at the far post to convert his second and his side's fourth.

Yate tried to fight back, but the usually reliable Scott Wilson hit one effort just wide and then fired narrowly over Jason Harvell's crossbar.

Wimborne scored their fifth when Brian got on the end of another set-piece five minutes from time to complete his double with a header.

Elsewhere in Division One South & West, the games between Mangotsfield and Clevedon and Paulton and Bishop's Cleeve were postponed.

Paulton will hope to return to action at Tiverton tomorrow, while Yate go to Shortwood the same evening.

Mangotsfield host Bridgwater and Clevedon entertain high-flying Poole on Wednesday night.
