Yate fold in the second period
Abingdon United 3 Yate Town 1
Yate Town let a one-goal half- time lead slip as they lost at Abingdon in Division One South & West of the Zamaretto League.
Town manager David Mogg said: "I will be looking to bring in more new signings in a bid to strengthen the squad."
Abingdon had the better of the first half, but failed to take their chances and paid for this when Yate took the lead in first half injury-time.
Chris Lewis crossed for Russ Church, who picked his spot with a header.
But Abingdon came out fired up for the second half and they equalised in the 59th minute when a long throw-in was flicked on by John McMahon for Andrew Younie to score from close range.
Encouraged by this, Abingdon took control of the game and they took the lead after 75 minutes when a Yate clearance went straight to Tom Melledew 35 yards from goal and his shot took a deflection to leave Town goalkeeper Josh Dempsey stranded.
The home side added a third goal when a shot came back off the post and Steve Davis was right on cue to score.
Yate tried to rally late on and created a chance for Justin Cattle, but his close-range header was well saved by Abingdon goalkeeper John Beames.
